The Vanderbilt women’s golf team finished the 2016 SEC Championship in 10th place with a final total of 905 (309-304-292) at the Greystone Golf and Country Club in Birmingham, Ala.
The Commodores’ 292 on Sunday was the team’s best of the weekend, with sophomore Alexandra Farnsworth carding a three-under 69 to lead the way. Vanderbilt also counted a 71 from senior Jennifer Hahn, a 75 from junior Kate Sborov, and a 77 from Courtney Zeng. Farnsworth was the team’s top finisher for the event with a 221 (76-76-69), which tied her for 16th place individually.
“It was just a matter of time before Farney and Jenn had some putts drop, and today they did,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “They really played well. I was also encouraged by Kate’s play today, and the way Courtney played her back nine. I hope it is a sign of good things to come with regionals coming up.”
Alabama won the team title with a final score of 859, five shots better than Florida. Maria Torres of Florida led wire-to-wire to win medalist honors with a score of nine-under par, 207.
The Commodores will now await their placement in the 2016 NCAA Regionals, which takes place May 5-7 at four locations around the nation.
“We’re going to get back to campus and focus on academics and finals in the next few weeks,” said Allen. “And then, we’ll get back to work focusing on Regionals. We’re excited for this next part of our season.”
