The Vanderbilt women’s golf team finished the PING/ASU Invitational on Sunday in a tie for 10th place with Stanford after posting a three-day team total of 917 (306-307-304). Freshman Marina Alex paced the Commodore effort with a 226 (77-75-74), which tied her for 23rd place.
The Commodores had their best round of the tournament on Sunday with a team score of 304, with Alex shooting a 74 in her final round. Freshman Andrea Messer tied for 43rd with a 231 (76-79-76) to post the team’s second-best score, while sophomore Megan Grehan fired a 232 (80-75-77) to tie for 50th. Junior Brooke Goodwin carded a 233 (75-78-80, T-55), and senior Jacqui Concolino ended the tournament with a 235 (78-80-77, T-63).
Oklahoma State stormed to the championship with a total of 881 and a final round score of 289, a tournament best. The Cowgirls finished one stroke ahead of Purdue for the team title. The Boilermakers’ Maria Hernandez won medalist honors with a 211 (72-69-70).
Vanderbilt will play this Saturday at Purdue in a one-day, 36-hole tournament to make up for a cancelled tournament earlier this spring at Pinehurst. That tournament will conclude their spring season.
