SEC Championships First Round Results
Freshman Marina Alex posted a two-over par, 73, to lead the Commodores on the first day of play at the SEC Championships in Blythewood, S.C. Alex is in a tie for 10th on the individual leader board, while the Commodores are in ninth place in the team standings.
“Marina looked good all day and (Andrea) Messer grinded out a good round with some positive energy,” said head coach Greg Allen. “But, we’ve got some work to do.”
Fellow freshman Andrea Messer was next for Vanderbilt with a 75, which puts her in a tie for 22nd after the first round. Junior Brooke Goodwin is in a tie for 25th with a 76, sophomore Megan Grehan posted a first-round 80 (T-47), and senior Jacqui Concolino ended the day with an 85 (T-58).
Auburn leads the tournament by six strokes over Tennessee and Arkansas with a 289. The Tigers have three players in the top four after Friday’s round. One of those Auburn players, Haley Wilson, is tied for the individual lead with Lucy Nunn of Arkansas and Ashley Lance of Ole Miss. All three players fired a one-under 70.
The second round continues on Saturday from the Cobblestone Golf Club.
