Vanderbilt freshman Simin Feng shot a team-leading two-under par, 69, on Saturday to lead the Commodores in round two of the Stanford Intercollegiate, hosted by Condoleeza Rice, at the Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif. As a team, Vanderbilt climbed four spots from day one into a tie for ninth with Kentucky and has a team score of 584 (296-288).
Feng, who is in a tie for 23rd on the individual leader board, had four birdies, 12 pars, and two bogeys in her round on Saturday.
“Today was a better day and I’m proud of how they responded to the tough day yesterday,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “We can still play better though and I think they will tomorrow. We had a lot of good birdie looks today that just didn’t drop.”
Besides Feng’s 69, the Commodores counted a one-over, 72, from Kendall Martindale, a two-over, 73, from Jenny Hahn, and a three-over, 74, from Antonia Scherer. Rene Sobolewski fired a second-round 77 on Saturday.
Southern Cal remains the team leader had has a total of 548 (276-272), with UCLA in second after shooting a 16-under par, 268, on Saturday. The Trojans’ Sophia Popov leads a pair of players in second by three strokes with a nine-under par, 133 (66-67).
The third and final round of the Stanford Intercollegiate concludes Sunday from Palo Alto.
