The Vanderbilt women’s golf team is in sixth place with a total of 603 (291-312) after the second day of play at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas. Junior Brooke Goodwin and sophomore Megan Grehan are the Commodores’ top scorers after Saturday’s action with identical scores of 148 (71-77), which is good for a tie for 18th place.
The Commodores posted a second-round team score of 312, which dropped them to sixth place in the tournament. Vanderbilt shot a 291 on Friday and was in a tie for third heading into today’s round. VU is 25 strokes back of Arizona State and Purdue, who lead the tournament with a score of 578.
Grehan and Goodwin paced the Vanderbilt effort for the day with a pair of 77’s. Other totals for Vanderbilt after Saturday’s play are: Marina Alex – 152 (74-78, T-34); Andrea Messer – 158 (75-83, T-158); and Jacqui Concolino – 160 (80-80, T-67). Christine Brown played as an individual and has a score of 172 (86-86, 92) after two rounds of play.
Maria Hernandez of Purdue leads all individuals with a 139 (70-69), one stroke better than Lucy Nunn of Arkansas, who sits at 140 (70-70).
The final round of the tournament begins with a shotgun start on Sunday morning.
