The #18-ranked Vanderbilt women’s golf finished the first 18 holes of the Bryan Intercollegiate at the Bryan Park Champions Course in fifth place with a total of 299. Senior Megan Grehan birdied her 18th hole to move to an even-par 72 for the day, which puts her in a tie for fourth on the individual leaderboard.
The Commodores trail first-place Tennessee by 11 strokes, and are three strokes behind fourth-place Virginia, who finished with a 296.
Grehan had three birdies and 10 pars in her last 13 holes after bogeying three of the first five. Grehan trails Erica Popson of Tennessee, who leads all individuals after firing a two-under par, 70.
The tournament, which features 13 of the top 50 teams in America, continues with 18 holes on Saturday.

Head coach Greg Allen quotes:
“Overall, I was really impressed today with the positive attitude we played with today. I really like where we are right now. We just need to be consistent with our play and especially with our attitude.”
“(Megan) Grehan was three over through five, and played like she has all year long. She settled in to come in at even par.”
“Eddie (Anna Leigh Keith) made some birdies coming in, and it was a solid day for Stratty (Lauren Stratton). She holed out on three, and almost made a hole-in-one at four.”
“Marina didn’t strike it very well, but she had a great attitude. I told her she’ll be able to come out of these rough patches a lot easier if she keeps up her positive outlook.”
“Conditions were chilly after what we got used to in Hawaii and at home recently…it was probably 60, partly sunny, a little breezy. There were four or five holes on a big lake, and it felt a little colder on those holes. The forecast is for even more misery Saturday and Sunday.”
