The 18th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s golf team carded a first-round 300 in their first round Friday and are tied for fourth in the team standings at the Bryan National Collegiate at the Bryan Park Golf and Enrichment Center in Greensboro, N.C.. Freshman Alexandra Farnsworth led the way with a one-over par, 73, which places her in a tie for seventh place on the individual leader board.
The Commodores also counted a 74 from freshman Cindy Ha, a 76 from junior Jennifer Hahn, and a 77 from sophomore Antonia Scherer.
“I’m really proud of our freshmen today,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “Cindy and Farney really carried us on a day where the conditions were tough. It was nice having Jenn back in the lineup. Overall, I’m pleased with the effort and the attitude. It had been a few weeks since we last competed, so I was good to be back out.”
Virginia leads all teams after carding a nine-over, 297, Friday, and leads second-place Wake Forest by one shot. Individually, the Demon Deacons’ Allison Emrey fired a three-under, 69, and leads all individuals.
The second round of the tournament continues on Saturday.
