Central District Invitational First Day Results

The Commodores began their spring season with a strong start after opening the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla., with a first-day total of eleven-over par, 587 (293-294), three strokes back of tournament leader Oklahoma, who ended the first day of play with an eight-over par, 584 (291-293).

Vanderbilt’s third-place start was spearheaded by senior Marina Alex, who is in a tie for second place with a two-round score of 143 (71-72), five strokes behind first place Chirapat Jao-Javanil of Oklahoma. Junior Lauren Stratton is in a tie for 11th after shooting a first-day score of 146 (73-73)

“Conditions were not real ideal for scoring today,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “It was in the mid to lower 70’s, but really breezy, but we grinded our way into position Tuesday.

“Marina had an up and down day today. She made a lot of birdies and bogeys, and missed a lot of greens. Stratty didn’t make a lot of birdies, and when she hit a green it was a two-putt par. It was a day of being patient for her. I was also very proud of Ed (Anna Leigh) after bouncing back from a slow start today with a solid second round.”

The third and final round of the Central District Invitational concludes on Tuesday morning with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

“We’re all hungry for a win,” said Allen. “We are confident and ready for tomorrow. We’ve got to make some putts and hit some more greens, and then let the chips fall.”
