First Round Results

The Commodores’ women’s golf team fired an eight-over, 296, in the first round of the Mason Rudolph Championship Friday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club and are in 11th place in the team standings after day one of competition. Sophomore Alexandra Farnsworth was Vanderbilt’s leading counter on the day with an even-par 72, while freshman Courtney Zeng had the team’s best round of the day, shooting a three-under 69 playing as an individual.

Zeng is in a tie for fourth on the individual leader board, while Farnsworth is in a tie for 19th. Other scores for the Commodores included a one-over 73 from junior Kate Sborov, a pair of 74’s from seniors Jennifer Hahn and Morgan Ransom, respectively, a 77 from sophomore Cindy Ha, a 79 from junior Antonia Scherer, and an 80 from junior Lauren Johnson.

“Well, from a scoreboard standpoint it looks like we struggled today, but it’s a really strong field with some impressive scores today,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “But, for the first round of the year and having four starters that haven’t competed in the starting lineup for a Mason, I’m actually pleased. I saw far more good things today than bad and there’s always room for improvement. I’m really proud of our freshman Courtney Zeng. What a way to open your college career.”

The Alabama Crimson Tide are in the team lead after shooting a six-under par, 282, for the day. and lead second-place Northwestern by one shot. Individually, Virginia’s Lauren Coughlin leads all players after shooting a six-under par, 66, and leads Alabama’s Lakareber Abe by one shot heading into the second round.

The second round continues on Saturday from the Vanderbilt Legends Club. Admission is free to the event.
