Sophomore Megan Grehan tallied a first-round, even-par 72 to lead the Commodores after the first day of play at the UCF Challenge in Sorrento, Fla. Vanderbilt is tied for 16th at the tournament heading into second-round play on Monday after firing a first-round 298.
Grehan’s 72 was VU’s best round by two shots and good for a tie for 23rd. The Commodores second-best round came from junior Brooke Goodwin, who carded a 74 (T-40). Marina Alex and Andrea Messer both finished with a 76 (T-61), and senior Jacqui Concolino (95) ended the first day with an 84.
The Commodores are 16 strokes back of the leader, UCLA, who ended the day with a 282. Arizona State is in second place with a 284.
Individually, Jessica Yaloczky leads the tournament after firing a six-under par 66. Caroline Hedwall of Oklahoma State, Nicole Smith of Tennessee, and Glory Yang of UCLA are all tied for second place with 68.
The second round of the tournament continues on Monday.
