TUSCON, Ariz. – The Vanderbilt women’s golf team is in 13th place after the first round of the Arizona Wildcat Invitational after posting a team total of 305. Arizona State leads the field after firing a first-round 287 on Monday.
Arizona State leads a pack of our teams in second place, a group that includes Arizona, Oklahoma State, Duke, and UCLA. Each one of those four teams are one stroke back at 288.
Individually, Duke’s Amanda Blumenherst sits atop the leaderboard after firing a three-under par, 68.
For Vanderbilt, Brooke Goodwin led the way with a four-over par, 75, which is good for a tied for 39th place. Freshman Megan Grehan fired a 76 (+5, T-45), senior Liebelei Lawrence and junior Jacqui Concolino each carded a 77 (+6, T-50), and Julie Bartholomew shot an 89 (+18, 91) to round out the Commodore scores on Monday.
“It’s good to be back in action, but we were a little rusty out there today,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “We’re not discouraged or disheartened, and we had a good attitude and mindset today. We’ve got two rounds left, and I think we’ll be a different team tomorrow and shoot a better score. ”
The second round tees off tomorrow morning at the Arizona National Golf Club.
