The Vanderbilt women’s golf team ended the first day of play Friday at the PING/ASU Invitational in 13th place, with junior Brooke Goodwin leading the way with a first-round 75. As a team, the Commodores fired a total of 308, 15 strokes back of Purdue, who leads the tournament after the first round.
Goodwin paced the Commodore effort, which was good for a tie for 31st place. Other scores for Vanderbilt were: Andrea Messer, with a 76 (T-39), Marina Alex, with a 77 (T-45), Jacqui Concolino, who carded a 78 (T-56), and Megan Grehan, who shot an 80 (T-77).
Purdue holds a one stroke lead over host Arizona State, who fired a 284 on Friday. Jennifer Song of Southern Cal and Jodi Ewart of New Mexico lead the individual portion of the tournament after shooting 70 in the first round.
The second round of the tournament continues on Saturday.
