The Vanderbilt women’s golf team finished the Tiger/Wave Classic in New Orleans, La., in 11th place with a team total of 919 (303-325-291) for the tournament. Sophomore Marina Alex fired a final-round 69 to vault into a tie for sixth with a final score of 221 (75-77-69) to lead the Commodores.
Alex, who moved up 10 positions from the second to final round, finished the tournament five-under par on par fives, which ranked second for individuals, and made 12 birdies for the weekend. The 12 birdies was the second-best total for the tournament.
Alex finished eight strokes behind individual medalist, Megan McChrystal of LSU, who ended the tournament with a 213 (72-72-69). Auburn claimed the team championship with an 889 (305-296-288), seven strokes better than second-place TCU.
Other Vanderbilt scores for the weekend included Lauren Stratton (72-82-82, T-64) and Megan Grehan (77-86-73, T-64), who each carded a 236. Brooke Goodwin tallied a 237 (82-83-72, T-74) and Anna Leigh Keith fired a 289 for the weekend (79-83-77, 85).
The Commodores’ next spring tournament is the Betsy Rawls’ Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas., March 26-28.
