The Commodore women’s golf team put up a valiant fight on Sunday at the Bryan National Collegiate, shooting a 296 in the third round and finishing the tournament with a final score of 902 (300-306-296), two shots back of Virginia, who won the team championship in a two-hole playoff over Wake Forest. Junior Jennifer Hahn was Vanderbilt’s leader for the weekend, carding a four-over par, 220 (76-69-75) and finishing in a tie for fourth.
Vanderbilt’s 296 was their lowest team total of the weekend and shot the Commodores up the team standings two places for the day. The Commodores finished the event leading all teams in par-five scoring (4.92 average) and third in total birdies (32).
“I’m proud of our team and the fight they showed today,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “We really showed a lot of grit out there and I was impressed with our effort. We did a lot of good things, and I hope today will be a good momentum builder heading into SEC’s in a couple of weeks.”
Hahn’s fourth-place finish was her third top five finish of the season after posting two birdies in her round Sunday. Freshman Alexandra Farnsworth had a final total of 224 and a team-low 72 in her final round (73-79-72), which led her to her first career top 10 after finishing in a tie for 10th-place.
On Sunday, Vanderbilt counted Farnsworth’s 72, Hahn’s 75, Cindy Ha’s 74, and Kendall Martindale’s 75.
Virginia’s Briana Mao won medalist honors with a final score of 216 (70-74-72).
The Commodores return to the course in two weeks at the SEC Championships in Birmingham.
