Final Results
The Commodore women’s golf team fired their best round of the three-day NCAA St. George Regional on Saturday with an 11-over, 296, and moved up two positions to finish the tournament ninth on the team leader board with a final total of 912 (319-297-296). Vanderbilt finished 12 shots back of the six-team cut for the NCAA Championship, and will miss the championship for the first time in six seasons.
Vanderbilt’s leading scorer for the tournament was freshman Alexandra Farnsworth, who finished in a tie for 26th with a final score of 226 (79-74-73). Senior Kendall Martindale finished in a tie for 31st with a 227 (80-71-76), freshman Cindy Ha carded a 228 (80-75-73, T-34), junior Jennifer Hahn posted a 231 (80-77-74, T-50), and sophomore Antonia Scherer finished with a 240 (83-77-80).
“Despite a couple of early double bogeys, we were able to also make several birdies to get under par through our first few holes,” said head coach Greg Allen. “But unfortunately, as was the case most of the week, we made too many big numbers and that hole we dug ourselves in the first round just ended up being too big. But, I’m proud of the effort. We never stopped believing we could get the job done. It just wasn’t meant to be, I guess. I’m really sad to see Kendall, Irina and Katie Rose’s collegiate career come to an end. It’s been a blessing to have been their coach.”
Southern California led wire-to-wire at the regional and captured the team portion of the tournament with a final total of 880 (293-292-295). Stanford, Arkansas, UNLV, Virginia, and California also advanced from the regional to the NCAA Championship in Bradenton, Fla., May 22-27.
Individually, Dana Finkelstein of UNLV won the individual championship with a score of two-under par, 211 (72-72-67) and was the only player under par for the tournament.
