Kinderlou Challenge Final Results 
Vanderbilt sophomore Marina Alex led the Commodores with a second place individual finish at the two-day Kinderlou Forest Challenge in Valdosta, Ga., in the Commodores’ first tournament of the spring. Alex fired an even-par 219 (71-74-74), which tied her for second place with Marta Silva Zamora of Georgia. As a team, Vanderbilt finished in fifth with a team total of 904 (301-302-301).
Alex’s finish is her third top two finish of the 2009-10 campaign, her fourth top five, and her fifth top 10. The Commodores have played in five events so far this season.
The Wayne, N.J., native ended today’s round with a one-over par, 74, after posting two birdies, 13 pars, and three bogeys.
“Marina played really well this weekend, but I don’t think she was too excited about the way she finished the round today,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “But, I think conditions affected everyone as the round ended. The temperature dropped 10 degrees, and the wind picked up to 20 or 25 miles per hour. Conditions got really tough.”
Vanderbilt’s final individual scores included a 227 (76-77-74) from Lauren Stratton, which tied her for 20th , a 230 (79-75-76) from Megan Grehan, which tied her for 35th, and a pair of 232’s from Anna Leigh Keith (78-76-79) and Andrea Messer (76-79-77). Keith and Messer tied for 42nd after the two-day event.
Tulane captured the team title with a total of 889, seven strokes better than second-place Ohio State and 14 strokes better than the Commodores. The Green Waves’ Janine Fellows won medalist honors with a two-under par, 217, two strokes better than Alex.
“We came away with a lot of positives,” said Allen. “We hadn’t had a lot of quality practice time heading into the tournament because of the weather her, but I’m really proud of the team. “I saw some really good quality shots, but there are some things that we can definitely work on as the season progresses. There is still plenty of golf to be played.”
