STANFORD, Calif. – The Vanderbilt women’s golf team ended the Stanford Intercollegiate in 10th place with a total of 920 (307-306-307), 57 strokes behind winner Arizona State, who stormed from behind on the last day of the tournament to take the team title. Senior Liebelei Lawrence led the way for Vanderbilt, ending the tournament at 223 (75-76-72), which was good for a tie for 26th place.
The Commodores posted another 307 on Sunday for their final total of 920 after firing the same score on Friday and a 306 on Saturday.
“It was a rough week,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “We didn’t hit the ball great, didn’t make a lot of birdies, and we really didn’t put ourselves in position for many birdies. It’s frustrating, but it’s golf, and we’ve got to learn from it and move on.”
Vanderbilt’s other finishers for the tournament were Brooke Goodwin, who shot a 232 (79-78-75), which tied her for 46th, Megan Grehan, who also shot a 232 (78-74-80), Jacqui Concolino, who ended the tournament with a 233 (75-78-80, T-48), and Amber Lundskog, who fired a 254 (83-88-83, 92).
Arizona State captured the tournament by four strokes over Duke after shooting a tournament-best 276 on Sunday. Arkansas’ Stacy Lewis won medallist honors after shooting a two-under, 211 (69-72-70), one stroke better than Arizona State’s Jennifer Osborn, who shot a 212 (70-75-67).
Vanderbilt returns to the course November 4-6 at the Collegiate Match Play Championship in Celebration, Fla.
