Vanderbilt sophomore Marina Alex ended the Duramed Cougar Classic in a tie for seventh place with a total of 214 (69-73-72) to lead the Commodore contingent at the tournament. Senior Brooke Goodwin posted her fourth career top 10 finish with a three-round score of 215 (68-72-75), which tied her for 10th. As a team, Vanderbilt finished in seventh place with a total of 881 (286-293-302).
Vanderbilt finished 31 strokes back of team champion Georgia, who led wire-to-wire and ended with an 850 (280-283-287). The Bulldogs finished seven strokes better than second place Florida State and 19 strokes better than North Carolina, who finished in third.
For the Commodores, sophomore Andrea Messer ended the tournament in a tie for 34th with a 223 (76-72-75), freshman Anna Leigh Keith fired a 229 (73-76-80, T-56), and Megan Grehan shot a 234 (76-76-82, T-71).
Marta Silva Zamora claimed medalist honors with a three round total of 208 (67-71-70), one stroke better than Lacey Agnew of Florida State.
The Commodores return to the course at their own tournament, the Mason Rudolph Women’s Championship, September 26-28, at the Vanderbilt Legends Golf Club in Franklin, Tenn.
