TEMPE, Ariz. – The Vanderbilt women’s golf team ended the ASU/Ping Invitational at the ASU Karsten Golf Course in a tie for 14th place after posting a final total of 920 (299-307-314). Freshman Megan Grehan led all Commodores with a 25th place finish and a final score of 222 (72-72-78).
Grehan finished with a third-round 78 after back-to-back even-par 72’s on Friday and Saturday. Senior Leibelei Lawrence posted the Commodores’ best score of the day on Sunday with a 74, and ended the tournament one stroke back of Grehan at 223 (73-76-74, T-28th). Other scores for Vanderbilt were Brooke Goodwin, who ended the tournament with a 229 (71-78-79, T-48), Julie Bartholomew, who carded a 250 (83-83-84, T-85), and Jacqui Concolino, who finished with a 254 (88-80-86, T-88).
Southern Cal led to wire-to-wire to capture the team title. The Trojans ended with an 854 (281-288-285), 11 strokes better than host Arizona State, who finished in second. Third-place UCLA finished 22 strokes back of USC.
Anna Nordqvist of Arizona State and Dewi Claire Schreefel of Southern Cal finished in a tie for medalist honors with a seven-under par, 209. Schreefel won on the first hole of a sudden death playoff with a par to beat Nordqvist and capture the individual portion of the tournament.
Vanderbilt returns to the course for the final time in the regular season in Loudon, Tenn., for the SEC Championship April 18-20.
