FRANKLIN, Tenn. — The sixth-ranked Commodore women’s golf team combined to shoot a 6-over par 294 to edge Belmont by two strokes and Kentucky by 26 strokes at the Vanderbilt Triangular Saturday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club. The single-round event took place on the Roper’s Knob course (Par 72; 6,236 yards). Players battled windy and cool conditions with occasional rain on the afternoon.
Belmont’s Lorie Warren outlasted Vanderbilt sophomore Jacqui Concolino, winning a one-hole playoff. Both players shot a 1-under par 71 through 18 holes.
Commodore junior Liebelei Lawrence took fifth place with a 1-over par 73. Freshman Brooke Goodwin shot a 2-over par 74 to tie for sixth place while senior Kristen Svicarovich took eighth place with a 4-over par 76. Senior Chris Brady tied for ninth after posting a 6-over par 78.
“Anything under 75 was good today under theses conditions,” Vanderbilt head coach Martha Richards said. “I thought Jacqui, Liebelei, Brooke and Amber played well. After 10 to 12 days off I’m glad we were able to play some competition before we head into the SEC Championship next week.”
Playing as individuals for Vanderbilt were sophomore Amber Lundskog and senior Julie Bartholomew. Lundskog shot an even-par 72 to tie for third place while Bartholomew recorded a 7-over 79 to tie for 11th position.
Vanderbilt travels to West Point, Miss., next week to compete in the SEC Championship, April 20-22.
