BATON ROUGE, La. — The Commodores slipped from first place to third on the leaderboard at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic today, after ending yesterday with a four-stroke lead.
Vanderbilt, No. 7 in the country, will enter tomorrow’s third and final round well in the hunt for the championship title, trailing No. 1 Duke by only six strokes and No. 6 Auburn by three. Tennessee is in fourth place, behind by 11 strokes.
For the second consecutive day, sophomore Jacqui Concolino led the Commodores by shooting a 2-over-par. Concolino had two birdies and one bogey on the front nine, followed by the three bogies on the back nine. Brooke Goodwin matched her strong performance from yesterday by again shooting two-over-par. Kristen Svicarovich, who opened today’s round by birdying the first hole and another on 17, would hit five bogies on the day. Her three-over-par performance tied that of Liebelei Lawrence. Chris Brady struggled early, notching double-bogies on the first and third holes and four consecutive bogies late in the day to end the round two eight-over-par.
Course conditions were a bit drier than yesterday, which had yet to drain completely after hard rains earlier in the week.
Following the LSU/Cleveland Classic, the Commodores travel to Tempe, Ariz., for the Ping/ASU Invitational March 30-April 1.
