Cougar Classic Day One Results
Senior Brooke Goodwin fired a four-under par, 140 (68-72) to lead the Commodore effort at the Duramed Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C., on Sunday. Vanderbilt, who played 36 holes at the Yeamans Hall Golf Club with 17 other schools, is in fifth place heading into the final round on Monday with a three-over par, 579 (286-293).
Vanderbilt trails first place Georgia by 16 strokes – the Bulldogs fired a 563 (280-283) in the first round. Florida State and Furman are tied for second place with a 575, and North Carolina is one stroke in front of the Commodores with a 578.
Sophomore Marina Alex is also in the top ten after firing a 142 (69-73) on day one, good for a tie for eighth. Fellow sophomore Andrea Messer shot a 148 (76-72), putting her in a tie for 32nd, freshman Anna Leigh Keith is in a tie for 39th with a 149 (73-76), and junior Megan Grehan is in a tie for 59th with a two-round total of 152 (76-76).
Goodwin trails Florida State’s Lacey Agnew, the individual leader after day one, by four strokes. Agnew shot an eight-under par 136 on Sunday.
The final 18 holes will be played on Monday.
