Vanderbilt freshman Marina Alex posted her best round of the NCAA Championships at the Caves Valley Golf Club on Thursday with a third-round 74. Alex has a total of 234 (79-81-74) with one round to play.
Alex got off to a fast start in her round on Thursday, posting two birdies on her front nine in route to a total of 34. The back nine, which were holes one through nine for Alex, were not as friendly, and she went on to post a four-over par 40 coming in for her total of 74.
“She got off to a great start and had great putts on her 10th and 11th holes,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “She was really happy the way she finished yesterday and that put her in a good frame of mind for today. Her first nine holes were impressive, and it was the Marina Alex we had seen all year. This is a huge learning experience for her and I hope it will help her and our team next year.”
Alex tees off at noon EST Friday.
