Sophomore Alexandra Farnsworth fired a second-round 69 to lead Vanderbilt on Saturday at the Clemson Invitational, and the Commodores are tied for fourth in the team standings with Michigan State with a total of 579 (289-290).
Farnsworth’s 69 featured five birdies and was only five rounds on the day in the 60’s. Farnsworth is in a tie for fifth on the individual leader board with a three-under, 141 (72-69). Senior Jennifer Hahn, who led all individuals after the first round Friday, posted a solid even-par 72 and has a two-round total of 139 (67-72) and is in fourth place individually. The Commodores also counted a 74 from sophomore Cindy Ha and a 75 from junior Kate Sborov on Saturday, and freshman Courtney Zeng registered a 76 in her second round at The Reserve at Lake Keowee.
“It was another fun day out there watching our girls compete,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “Farney put on a putting clinic on the last five holes making five putts outside of 15 feet. It was impressive. We’re excited about the opportunity before us tomorrow and it’s my hope that we continue to have the same mindset we’ve showed so far.”
Florida leads the tournament after two rounds with a score of two-under par, 574 (284-290), but four teams, including the Commodores, are within five shots of the Gators. Individually, a trio of players lead the tournament at six-under par, 138, that includes Florida’s Samantha Wagner and Karolina Vickova, and Katie Sharp of Michigan State.
The third and final round concludes on Sunday.
