Freshman Marina Alex finished in a tie for 17th place with a final total of 221 (73-69-79) to lead the Commodores at the SEC Championships at the Cobblestone Golf Club in Blythewood, S.C. Vanderbilt finished in 10th place as a team at the tournament with a final score of 915 (304-301-310).

Junior Brooke Goodwin was next for the Commodores, who posted a team-best 74 in the final round on Sunday. She ended the tournament in a tie for 36th with a score of 228 (76-78-74). Freshman Andrea Messer finished a stroke behind Goodwin with a 229 (75-75-79), which tied her for 38th, while sophomore Megan Grehan carded a final total of 237 (80-79-78), and finished in a tie for 51st. Senior Jacqui Concolino finished 58th with a score of 251 (85-83-83).

Auburn won the their eighth SEC team championship with a total of 870 (289-296-285), eight strokes better than Arkansas and Alabama, who both finished with an 878. Freshman Marta Silva captured medalist honors with a three-under par, 210 (72-67-71), the only player in the field to finish under par.

The Commodores will await to see where they land in the NCAA Regionals, which takes place May 5-7. The three regional sites in 2009 are Gainesville, Fla., Tempe, Ariz., and Columbus, Ohio, with 21 teams selected to each site.
