Wetzel Fifth at SEC Championships 10/30/2004 FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Sophomore Ashleigh Wetzel led Vanderbilt with a fifth place individual finish at the 2004 Southeastern Conference Championships this weekend. Wetzel’s covered the six kilometers in 21:07.18 trailing Auburn’s Angela Homan, who ran 20:25.42. The injury-riddled Commodores still managed to place sixth behind Wetzel’s strong performance. Coach Jim Spivey was forced to go without a number of his strongest runners much of the fall due to the rash of injuries. Freshman Julie Eckerley was next across the line for Vanderbilt in 32nd position. Shannon Capps, Jackie Wachsman and Lauren Pence also scored for Vanderbilt. Tennessee won the women’s team championship. |
