NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt women’s golf begins its season in familiar territory this weekend by traveling to Pebble Beach Golf Links to compete in the Carmel Cup for the third consecutive season. The annual three-day, 54-hole showcase features a consistently competitive lineup of schools with this year’s competition having five 2024 NCAA Championships participants.
“I really can’t think of a better way to get the season started than having the opportunity to play Pebble Beach,” said head coach Greg Allen. “We are very grateful for everyone that makes this possible for our young ladies. It’s truly one of the most special weekends of the year.”
This weekend’s field will be the first since the inception of the women’s tournament in 2022 in which two-time champion Stanford will not compete. A new winner will be crowned on Sunday, and Vanderbilt looks to take the title over SEC foes Arkansas, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M as well as Oklahoma State, TCU, and Texas Tech.
Led by the duo of Juniors Lynn Lim and Tillie Claggett, the Vanderbilt lineup is full of collegiate experience. Lim and Claggett were vital for the team’s success as underclassmen, helping the Dores to a top-20 finish at the NCAA Championships last spring. Sophomores Sara Im, Ava Merrill and Charlene Chung will join as returners in the lineup at Pebble Beach. Freshman Angelina Tolentino will make her Vanderbilt debut to complete the squad on opening weekend. The top five scores among the Commodores’ six players will count for the competition.
“I’m excited to see who is willing to step up this year, and this weekend, and be our leader on and off the golf course,” said Allen. “We obviously graduated two great seniors in Celina and Ginnie, but I like what I’m seeing from our girls so far.”
Chung will tee off the Commodores’ season at 8:40 a.m. CT. Live scoring for the event can be found HERE.
