Marqu’es Webb had a big night and Rebekah Dahlman hit a big shot. Together, the two Vanderbilt veterans helped send the Commodores to a 70-68 victory over LSU on Monday night at Memorial Gym.
Dahlman connected on a go-ahead 3-pointer from the corner with 28 seconds remaining and it proved to be the game-winner for the Commodores (12-13, 2-10), who outscored LSU 20-11 in the final 10 minutes to earn the comeback victory.
Webb recorded a double-double with a career-high 20 points and 10 rebounds. She finished 6-of-6 from the floor and 8-of-9 from the foul line. Her final rebound of the night came after LSU’s Rina Hill missed a potential game-tying shot just before the buzzer.
Raigyne Moncrief paced LSU (17-8, 6-6) with 20 points. Christa Reed added 10 for Vanderbilt.
The Commodores trailed 59-50 with 9:22 to play in the fourth quarter before closing the game on a 20-9 run to earn the win. Dahlman’s clutch shot from the corner capped the comeback and gave Vanderbilt the lead for the first time since early in the third quarter.
After Dahlman’s 3-pointer, LSU had two possessions in the final 23 seconds, but the Tigers came up empty both times, including missing two shots in the final six seconds.
Alexis Hyder finished with 13 points before fouling out for the Tigers. Chloe Jackson had 11 points and Ayanna Mitchell had 10.
The victory was an emotional boost for a Vanderbilt team that has suffered a series of close losses since the start of SEC play. Five of the Commodores’ conference defeats were decided by a combined 21 points, with all five games being determined in the final minute.
Vanderbilt finished 8-of-18 from 3-point range in Monday’s win. LSU went only 1-of-3 from 3-point range to continue a season-long theme. The Tigers have made only 28 3-pointers this season, easily the fewest in the SEC.
