The Flood of 2010 reaped havoc on Middle Tennessee, destroying people’s homes, leaving in its wake only memories of what was for many individuals. Through the devastation, Nashville has come together in ways unfamiliar to others across the country. Volunteers have poured into the areas hurting the most to lend a helping hand to a fallen neighbor.

During the time of recovery, Vanderbilt athletics has assisted the relief efforts in many ways. On May 11, Vanderbilt raised more than $20,000 for the Red Cross during its baseball game against Louisville. Additionally, teams, coaches and staff members have been actively involved in the community during this time.

On Thursday, the women’s basketball coaching staff assisted with the recovery efforts through volunteering with Hands on Nashville. The staff worked with other volunteers west of downtown in Bellevue, helping to cleanup areas where homes were flooded.
