The ninth-ranked Vanderbilt women’s basketball team will learn its postseason destination on Monday, March 12, as the brackets for the 2007 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship are announced live on ESPN at 7 p.m. CT.

The suspense during Monday night’s broadcast will come from Vanderbilt’s seed, destination and opponent, as the Commodores are guaranteed a berth into the field of 64 thanks to their 2007 Southeastern Conference Tournament Championship.

The Commodores (27-5, 10-4 SEC) are making their 20th overall appearance — and eighth consecutive — in the NCAA Tournament, and hold a record of 31-19 all-time in NCAA Tournament play. Vanderbilt is 6-4 under Head Coach Melanie Balcomb, including back-to-back Sweet Sixteen appearances in 2004 and 2005. The Commodores’ best postseason performance came in 1993 when they advanced to the NCAA Final Four.

First-round games will be played on March 17 (Saturday) and 18 (Sunday) at eight sites around the nation: Austin, Texas; Minneapolis, Minn.; Stanford, Calif.; Los Angeles, Calif.; East Lansing, Mich.; Hartford, Conn.; Pittburgh, Pa.; and Raleigh, N.C.

Regional sites include: Fresno, Calif.; Greensboro, N.C.; Dallas, Texas; and Dayton, Ohio. The 2007 NCAA Final Four will be played April 1 and 3, at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.

Four teams from the state of Tennessee have earned automatic bids this season, including Belmont (Atlantic Sun), Chattanooga (Southern) and Middle Tennessee (Sun Belt).
