NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Sophomore guard Merideth Marsh scored a career-high 19 points on 5-of-5 shooting from long range to lead the Vanderbilt women’s basketball team to a 75-48 victory over South Florida Wednesday night at Memorial Gymnasium.
Marsh missed only one field goal on the evening and hit all four of her free-throw attempts, while also coming away with a team-high three steals. She led four Commodores in double figures, including senior Liz Sherwood, junior Christina Wirth and freshman Hannah Tuomi.
Tuomi made the most of her first collegiate start, coming just one rebound shy of her first career double-double with 11 points and nine boards.
Vanderbilt used a 16-2 run at the start of the second half to break open a 22-point lead with 14 minutes to go. The lead bubbled to as many as 32 with six minutes remaining.
The Commodores held South Florida to 29 percent shooting on the evening to break the Bulls’ eight-game winning streak. Vanderbilt moves to 3-0 all-time against South Florida.
Head Coach Melanie Balcomb’s Commodores travel to Princeton (N.J.) this weekend to face the Tigers at 1 p.m. CT (2 p.m. ET) on Saturday. Vanderbilt will then open the 2008 Southeastern Conference schedule at home against Mississippi State on Thursday, Jan. 10.
