NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The 19th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s basketball team returns from a 13-day break to play host to local rival Lipscomb on Saturday, Dec. 22, at 5:30 p.m. CT inside Memorial Gymnasium.

The women’s contest will be featured as the first game of a doubleheader with the Commodore men, who welcome Tennessee State into Memorial Gym at 8 p.m. Patrons with a ticket to the women’s game are welcome to stay for the men’s contest, but must vacate their seats and move to the student section (G-K). Men’s ticket holders are invited to come early for the women’s game, but may not be able to access their specific seats until the break between games.

The 13-day hiatus came as the Commodores concluded a run of 11 games in 31 days to open the season. The Dores will have an eight-day layoff following Saturday’s contest before playing host to Old Dominion on Sunday, Dec. 30.

In their last game, Vanderbilt’s streak of 22-consecutive regular season non-conference home wins came to a close as Colorado upset the Commodores, 62-51. Trailing by as much as 20 points in the second half, Vanderbilt fought back to within three in the closing minutes but could not finish the comeback.

Senior Liz Sherwood — the Commodores’ leading scorer and a Colorado native — posted her second double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds. But 3-of-19 shooting from behind-the-arc combined with 16 straight CU makes at the free throw line doomed Vanderbilt to its third loss of the season.

Vanderbilt and Lipscomb are located only a couple of miles apart in Nashville. The teams have played on 12 previous occasions, with the Commodores winning all 12 matchups, including a 109-40 victory last season in the VU Holiday Classic. The game has only been contested twice in the past 16 years, counting a 2004 NCAA Tournament game in Chattanooga.
