NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The 18th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s basketball team plays host to 10th-ranked Duke Wednesday at 7 p.m. CT inside Memorial Gymnasium.
Tickets for Wednesday’s game are $6 for adults and $4 for youth, but as a special thank you to Vanderbilt employees, all university staff and their guests will be admitted to the game free of charge.
The 5-1 Commodores have won three straight games, including two victories in their own Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament over the past weekend. Duke, also 5-1, suffered its first loss over the weekend, falling to No. 2 Connecticut at the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Senior center Liz Sherwood and junior forward Christina Wirth lead the Commodores in scoring, both averaging over 15 points per game. Wirth earned Most Valuable Player honors at this past weekend’s tournament, with Sherwood and junior Jennifer Risper joining her on the all-tournament team.
Junior center Chante Black leads Duke’s balanced scoring attack with 13.3 points per game. Standout junior guard Abby Waner has missed four games this season due to injury, but returned to action this weekend against UConn.
Fans can tune in and listen to Vanderbilt head coach Melanie Balcomb on the Sports Zone on Wednesday afternoon at approximately 3:05 p.m. CT. The head coach of the Vanderbilt women’s basketball program will talk with 104.5 The Zone (WGFX-FM) personalities George Plaster, Willy Daunic and Darren McFarland about the Commodores’ game against the Blue Devils.
