TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — The No. 17/20 Vanderbilt women’s basketball team fell victim to an overtime road upset Wednesday night, falling to Indiana State, 77-72, at the Hulman Center.
Even a pair of double-doubles by Commodore juniors Jennifer Risper and Christina Wirth could not overcome 20 turnovers and 21 percent free-throw shooting.
Risper’s first career double-double featured 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Risper also had five assists and six steals while playing the full 45 minutes. Wirth had a similarly productive night. She connected on 10-of-16 shots to score 22 points and pulled 10 boards while also playing the entire game.
But Vanderbilt was a combined 3-of-14 from the charity stripe, making only 1-of-6 attempts after halftime.
Indiana State’s Kelsey Luna scored 22 points to lead the Sycamores, who shot 85 percent from the free throw line, including 7-of-7 in overtime.
The Commodores will head back to the road next week, playing at Clemson on Tuesday, Nov. 20.
