NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team closed its 2006-07 preseason schedule with a 83-56 over the Premier Players Monday night at Memorial Gymnasium.
Four Commodore starters scored in double-figures, while All-Southeastern Conference point guard Dee Davis dished out a game-high six assists. Davis’ six assists matched Premier’s team total for the evening.
Senior Carla Thomas and sophomore Christina Wirth led Vanderbilt with 15 points apiece. Senior Caroline Williams added 13, with junior Liz Sherwood posting 12 points. Premier’s Leah Metcalf, a 2004 graduate of North Carolina, scored a game-high 19 points.
Eleven of Vanderbilt’s 12 players scored in the game. Ashlee Bridge led all freshmen with seven points, which included 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.
The Premier Players came into the game with a 3-3 record this fall, just past the halfway point of their 10-game exhibition swing. Premier had won three of its last four contests coming into tonight’s game, including a one-point loss at Pittsburgh.
Vanderbilt opens the regular season this Sunday, Nov. 12, in Boulder, Colo., against the Buffaloes.
