The NCAA announced Wednesday that women’s basketball attendance ranked second all-time across all divisions during the 2010-11 season. Total attendance surpassed 11 million for the fourth straight year and Division I attendance was at an all-time high of 8,127,779.
The previous Division I record was 8,090,084 set in 2007-08. Division I teams averaged 1,642 fans per game as overall attendance increased by 75,971 from last season.
As previously announced, Vanderbilt finished the season ranked 20th in attendance with an average of 4,589 fans at 15 home games. The average attendance was an increase from 2009-10 when Vanderbilt drew a crowd of 4,345 per game.
The Southeastern Conference ranked third nationally with an average attendance of 3,768 and 730,952 total spectators. The Big 12 led the nation in attendance with 1,005,377 (4,720 per game). The Big Ten ranked second with 744,901 (4,161).
Tennessee led the nation in average attendance with 12,599 fans per game. Louisville ranked second with an average crowd of 10,859.
The Commodores finished the season 20-12 overall, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the 12th straight year.
