NASHVILLE, Tenn. — On Commencement Day, student-athletes at Vanderbilt University trade their team uniforms for a cap and gown.
Vanderbilt saw 69 student-athletes earn their degrees on Friday, a number that combines December 2016 and Spring 2017 graduates. A remarkable 90 percent of graduating Commodore student-athletes achieved SEC Academic Honor Roll recognition during their time at Vanderbilt. To qualify for the SEC honor, student-athletes must have a grade point average of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00.
Vanderbilt’s graduating student-athletes also contributed to a 2016-17 academic year GPA of a 3.171.
These Commodores were just as successful in their athletic endeavors. Over the past four seasons, graduating student-athletes played a role in two national championships, seven conference championships, 66 All-America honors and 1,787 total wins.
