Indianapolis, Ind. — Vanderbilt University student-athletes top the Southeastern Conference and rank among the nation’s leaders for graduation rates in an annual report released this week by the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Vanderbilt overall score in the NCAA’s Graduation Success Rate (GSR), which is a four-year composite statistic for the freshman classes of 2006-07 through 2009-10, is 93 percent. It matches the school’s score from a year ago and is just two points shy of Vanderbilt’s previous best of 95% from 2008 GSR ratings released
Remarkably, ten Commodore squads notched a perfect 100% score in the NCAA GSR report: men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s cross country, women’s basketball, women’s bowling, women’s lacrosse, women’s soccer, and women’s swimming.
Vanderbilt’s four additional varsity sports — baseball, football, men’s basketball and women’s track — also ranked among the conference leaders.
Vanderbilt’s 93 GSR score led the SEC and tied for 35th among more than 350 athletic programs included in the NCAA study. Vanderbilt also ranked sixth among all Power 5 conference schools.
The NCAA includes all scholarship athletes in its GSR study. Athletes who transfer in good standing do not count against the school’s GSR. Schools also are allowed to count incoming transfers and early enrollees who subsequently graduate.
Here are the annual scores for Vanderbilt student-athletes during the 12-year history of the GSR.
