Kevin Stallings Postgame Quotes
Opening Statement:
“We are very happy to be able to come in here and get a victory. They are a good team and I hope they are an NCAA Tournament team. I certainly think they can be. It has obviously hurt them not having Buckner. You can tell that tonight his timing was off. I think he is an important piece for them. Nevertheless, I am really proud of our team of taking that significant hit to the mouth we took to start the game and digging in and having the courage and toughness to play through that.
On Ogilvy:
“A.J. was terrific from start to finish. He dominated the paint. That was one of the things we talked about in the locker room, that if we were going to win this game, we had to win the game in the paint. This is, in my opinion, the best game he’s played all season long. What a great time for it.”
On winning on the road:
“We talked about trying to get the swagger back that we had earlier in the conference season on the road, and our guys certainly did that. We really gutted this one out, and we did that without some of our key guys having great nights, like Jermaine and Andre.”
Andy Kennedy Postgame Quotes
On the play of A.J. Ogilvy:
“We had a long preparation and we talked about it for six days. You can’t let him have deep touches because if you let him have deep touches there is no way that you can get help there, because they also have shooters. You have to stay somewhat attached. We were allowing him to get deep touches and allowing him to work, and he did what he does. He got our guys in foul trouble. I thought Reggie (Buckner) was doing a decent job and he gave us a lift. He tweaked his ankle again and he was a little bit tentative. From there, I thought he was a step slow, and obviously [DeAundre] Cranston couldn’t do anything with him. We were trying to double a little bit and just didn’t make the plays. We knew it was going to be an issue and it certainly was.”
On free throws:
“We leave a lot of them on the floor. As simple as it sounds, it’s about lay-ups and free throws. We had a couple of and-one opportunities and we didn’t finish them. We left free throws on the line in pivotal stretches.”
On Vanderbilt:
“They are a good basketball team. They took advantage of every mistake that we made. Jeffery Taylor is very athletic and can do things from the wing off the drive. We had a real issue with Ogilvy on the inside because he was getting deep post touches. Jermaine Beal has been playing tremendous. He had a flat start, but he made plays for them down the stretch.”
On Ole Miss’ struggles:
“For us it’s the same story, all year. We get doubled up on the foul line at home. When we get opportunities to go to the foul line, we don’t cash in. You’re not going to be successful against good basketball teams if you do not correct those mistakes.”
On the progression of the team:
“I’m terribly disappointed that we haven’t taken advantage of all of our opportunities. I’m terribly disappointed that we have lost three games in this building. I am the head coach, and I take full responsibility.”
