Vanderbilt closes out its December schedule when it plays host to Alabama A&M Friday at Memorial Gymnasium. Game time is set for 7 p.m. CT. The contest will not be televised.
The Commodores have enjoyed a strong showing in December so far, winning seven of their eight games. Vanderbilt saw its seven-game win streak snapped in an overtime setback to Appalachian State, 87-79, in the championship game of the San Juan Shootout on Dec. 21.
Vanderbilt seniors Derrick Byars and Dan Cage earned recognition to the San Juan Shootout All-Tournament Team. Byars led all Commodores at the tournament, averaging 15.3 points. He scored a team-high 18 points against Appalachian State. Cage tied a career-high with 18 points against UPR-Mayaguez in the tournament opener. He averaged 15.0 points in San Juan and shot a team-best 47.6 percent from 3-point range (10-of-21).
The Commodores can close out the month of December with an 8-1 mark (.889) with a win Friday. It would give Vanderbilt its most wins in the month of December since the 1993 campaign when the Commodores were 8-0 and in the midst of a season-long 10-game win streak. That squad went on to win the SEC East title.
Vanderbilt leads the all-time series with Alabama A&M 3-0, including a 74-58 home win over the Bulldogs last season.
