The Vanderbilt women’s golf team fired a second-round total of 307 and remained in seventh place at the 2011 SEC Women’s Championship at the Auburn University Golf Club in Auburn, Ala. The Commodores have a two-day total of 602 (295-307) heading into the final round on Sunday.
Sophomore Anna Leigh Keith leads the Vanderbilt contingent with a two-over par, 146 (70-76), and is in a tie for ninth. Junior Marina Alex is next with a five-over, 149 (72-77).
Auburn maintains the lead on their home course, and has a two-day score of 573 (283-290), nine strokes better than second-place Alabama. The Tigers and Crimson Tide were the only two teams to shoot under 300 in much more difficult conditions after a cold front moved through the area on Friday night, cooling off temperatures and kicking up the wind.
Tennessee’s Erica Popson, the 2010 runner-up at last year’s championship, leads all individuals with a four-under par, 140 (66-74). Auburn’s Cydney Clanton and Arkansas Emily Tubert are one stroke back at 141.
The final round of the 2011 SEC Championship concludes on Sunday.

Head coach Greg Allen quotes
“It was really windy…gusts were up to 30 mph. The wind was weird too. It would blow in your face on the tee, and then the flag is downwind. It was like that on number eight, and we had a couple of double-bogeys there.”
“Marina’s frustrated because she hit the ball pretty darn good, but is still at 77. She didn’t have any birdies today, and couldn’t get anything to fall.”
“We needed patience out there, and I thought they showed great patience.” It’s just that we pulled the wrong trigger on a couple of holes, and it cost us.”
