The Commodore women’s golf team finished the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate with a final total of 911 (294-306-311), which placed Vanderbilt in seventh place on the final team standings at the English Turn Golf and Country Club in New Orleans. Freshman Cindy Ha and sophomore Antonia Scherer were the team’s individual leaders for the tournament, with each ending the event with a total of 224, which tied them for 15th overall.
“The girls gave a great effort and played with a lot of heart again today, but unfortunately could never get anything going,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “We were able to eliminate the big numbers but just couldn’t make our normal amount of birdies. I was proud of how Farney bounced back from a rough day yesterday. Overall, it’s early in the season. We’ll be just fine.”
LSU claimed the team title with a three-round score of 874 (284-304-286), 12 strokes better than second-place Florida. The Tigers’ Madelene Sagstrom and Caroline Nistrup shared medalist honors with a four-under par, 212.
The Commodores return to the course at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate March 6-8 in Hilton Head, S.C.
