The Vanderbilt women’s golf team finished the Clemson Invitational in 14th place after carding a three-round total of 901 (309-297-295) at The Reserve at Lake Keowee in Sunset, S.C. Junior Alexandra Farnsworth was the team’s best finisher at the event, carding a three-day total of 222 (76-74-72), which tied her her for 39th on the individual leader board.
Sophomore Courtney Zeng was the team’s best finisher on Sunday with a one-under par, 71. Vanderbilt also counted an even-par 72 from Farnsworth, a three-over 75 from freshman Abbey Carlson, and a five-over 77 from senior Kate Sborov.
“I was really proud of the effort this week and liked seeing the improvement,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “Unfortunately, that first round was not very good. But, I like the way the girls stayed focused. We had a chance today to get past a really good Texas A&M team but came up a couple short. Courtney was really good today and that’s how she has looked the last several weeks. We now have two weeks before SECs and just need to keeping getting better in all aspects of the game.”
Florida State won the team title with a final total of 10-under par, 854 (291-278-285), two strokes better than second-place Furman. Matilda Castren of Florida State won individual medalist honors with a final total of nine-under par, 207 (72-65-70).
The Commodores will be back in action for the SEC Championship April 21-23 in Birmingham, Ala.
