BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Virginia used an 18 point performance from Kyle Guy to down Vanderbilt on Thanksgiving Day, 68-42, at the Barclays Center in the NIT Season Tip Off in Brooklyn, N.Y.
The Cavaliers never trailed in the game after opening the game with a 15-1 run to keep the Commodores at bay. Matthew Fisher-Davis led the team in scoring with 11 points.
The Commodores were limited to only 23.1% from the floor on the night.
“We were missing shots early, and they made some shots,” said Vanderbilt head coach Bryce Drew. “Virginia is not a team you want to get behind on, especially early, because they are hard to come back on. We had some looks, but then they did a great job contesting.”
Vanderbilt returns to action Friday night at the Barclays Center at approximately 8:45 p.m. CT to face the loser of the Seton Hall and Rhode Island game. The game will be televised on ESPNNews.
“Both teams are really good, really tough, and play really good defense,” said Drew. “Either one will be a really good challenge.”
