DEFENSE DETERMINES SUCCESS
- In Saturday’s loss to Oklahoma, Vandy allowed the Sooners to shoot 53.4 percent from the field and 42.9 from three.
- It continued a trend of poor defense in losses, as the Dores have allowed opponents to shoot 54.3 percent from the field and 37.3 from three in the four defeats.
- Contrast that with the 19 wins where Vandy limits foes to 39 percent from the floor and 27 percent beyond the arc.
ANOTHER CAREER DAY FOR TANNER
- Tyler Tanner dropped 37 points in the loss to Oklahoma, his first 30-point performance. Tanner is the first Dore to score 37 or more since Scotty Pippen Jr. dropped 38 at Cincinnati in 2021.
- Tanner also added nine assists in the loss, accounting for another 26 points.
- 25 of Tanner’s 37 came in the second half, including 15 in the final 1:58 of the game as Vandy mounted its furious comeback.
TANNER TOP 10 FOR COUSY AWARD
- Sophomore Tyler Tanner was named to the Bob Cousy Award Point Guard of the Year midseason top 10 list.
- It’s easy to see why as the point guard is averaging 18.6 points, 5.4 assists and 2.5 steals per game. He’s the only major conference player averaging better than 17.5/5/2 in those categories.
- Tanner has scored in double figures in all 23 games this season and has elevated in SEC play, averaging 22.0 points and 5.9 assists.
- With 57 steals on the season, Tanner already ranks among the top 10 single seasons in program history.
- His 122 assists are tied for sixth by a sophomore in Vanderbilt history. The record is 172.
- Tanner is 19 points away from entering the top 10 sophomore scoring seasons at Vandy.
RAINING NICKEL
- Tyler Nickel ranks 21st in the country with 77 made threes on the season and 18th in threes per game at 3.5.
- The flamethrower sits fifth nationally, connecting on 45 percent of his three-point attempts. He has hit three or more threes in 14 games this season.
SERIES HISTORY
- Vanderbilt meets Auburn for the 150th time on Tuesday night. The Dores own a 90-59 edge in the series.
- The Tigers have dominated the series of late, winning eight of the past nine meetings.
- Vandy is looking for its first win on the Plains since 2016.
