The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team (15-5, 3-4 SEC) hosts LSU (14-6, 4-3 SEC) on Sunday, January 29, at Memorial Gym. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.

The game is Vanderbilt’s annual Pink Out in conjunction with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s Play 4Kay initiative, designed to raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer in memory of the late NC State Head Coach, Kay Yow.

Scouting The Commodores
The Commodores will look for their second-straight win against LSU, coming off a 68-48 upset of No. 17/15 Georgia on Thursday. Vanderbilt was led by a career-high 34 points from Christina Foggie. She shot 50% from the field (12-24) and 43.8% from three (7-16) in the contest. The sophomore guard leads the SEC in scoring at 18.4 points per game. The Commodores also got a double-double performance from Tiffany Clarke (13 points, 12 rebounds), who is averaging 10.8 points and a team-best 7.4 rebounds per game. Also in double-figures for Melanie Balcomb’s squad are Jasmine Lister and Stephanie Holzer at 12.1 and 10.3 points per game, respectively. Lister leads the team with 5.15 assists per game, which is third in the conference. She had five against the Lady Bulldogs, while backcourt mate Kady Schrann matched a career-high with six assists.

Scouting The Lady Tigers
LSU travels to West End with a record of 14-6, 4-3 in SEC play. The Lady Tigers had their bye in conference play on Thursday, but did play in the state of Tennessee on Tuesday, January 26, when they traveled to Johnson City to face East Tennessee State. LSU needed overtime, but escaped with a 71-68 win over the Lady Bucs. LaSondra Barrett had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. She leads LSU in scoring at 12.1 points per game. Bianca Lutley added a career-high 16 points as the Lady Tigers were without guard Jeanne Kenny, who is recovering from a concussion but is expected to return against Vanderbilt. Head Coach Nikki Caldwell’s squad is also without guard Destini Hughes, who was lost for the season with a knee injury. LSU has lost three-straight SEC games at Florida, at Tennessee and vs. Arkansas.

Vanderbilt vs. LSU – The Series
Sunday will be the 39th meeting between Vanderbilt and LSU, with the Commodores holding a 22-16 edge in the series. The teams have met once a season since 1985-86, when they first met in SEC play. LSU won the first four contests in the series. Vanderbilt holds a record of 11-3 versus the Lady Tigers at Memorial Gym and took a 55-50 win on West End a season ago behind 23 points from Stephanie Holzer. Melanie Balcomb has gone 9-6 against LSU in nine previous seasons at Vanderbilt. The Commodores will be trying to win their third-straight in the series, something neither team has done since Vanderbilt won six-straight from 1999-2002.
