TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Three Crimson Tide players scored over 20 points as No. 4 Alabama downed Vanderbilt, 103-87, on Tuesday night in Coleman Coliseum. Jason Edwards scored 21 to lead five Commodores in double figures in the loss.
Tyler Nickel scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half to join Edwards in double digits for the Commodores. AJ Hoggard added 11 while Devin McGlockton and MJ Collins chipped in 10 each to round out the five double figure scorers for Vanderbilt (15-4, 3-3 SEC). McGlockton added 14 rebounds to record his fourth double-double of the season.
Mouhamed Dioubate scored a career-high 22 points to lead Alabama (16-3, 5-1 SEC). Aden Holloway matched Dioubate with 22 points of his own as the pair combined to shoot 16-of-20 from the field. Mark Sears added 21 points while Grant Nelson and Jarin Stevenson scored 10 each to give the Tide five in double figures.
After Vanderbilt jumped to a 7-2 lead, Alabama seized control behind a 20-4 run. The Crimson Tide pushed its advantage to 48-31 at the half. Nickel helped the Dores claw back in the second half, knocking down three-straight three pointers out of the break. Vanderbilt closed to within eight with three minutes to play but Alabama iced the game with a 10-0 run.
Alabama outscored Vandy 54-34 in the paint and 52-22 off the bench. The Crimson Tide shot 56.3 percent from the field while the Dores hit at just 38.8 percent.
Vanderbilt returns home on Saturday to host No. 9 Kentucky at Memorial Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 1:30 p.m. on ESPN.
