NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Tori Ferris came off the bench to make an impact and Robyn Renslow equaled the fifth highest game score in program history to highlight Vanderbilt’s unbeaten day at the New Jersey Jamboree Friday.

The Commodores polished off Saint Peters, Caldwell, Saint Francis, Bethune -Cookman and Morgan State and ended the opening day of team games in fifth place in the field of 26. Arkansas State leads the tournament, followed by Sam Houston, host Fairleigh Dickinson and McKendree with two more days of competition left.

Ferris was not in the lineup for the first game but exploded in the next four, averaging 225 and powered by scores of 247 and 257. Renslow constructed games of 234-221-164-279 and 185 to average 216.60, good for sixth individually. Arkansas State’s Stephanie Mims punished the lanes to set the pace at 231.40.

Renslow’s 279 equaled Karen Grygiel’s effort in 2009 at the Holiday Classic. Freshman Kristin Quah continued her steady play with a 205.4 average over the five games, putting the Singapore product in 16th for the moment. Junior Nicole Powell carved out a 243 game, second best in her career.

“Tori was out most consistent bowler today,” Coach John Williamson said. “She was plus-103 pins in just four games. Robyn had another of her good days but in some ways her play mirrored much of our team’s as we were up and down and had trouble getting everyone on the same page.”

The tournament continues Saturday morning at the Brunswick Carolier at 8:00 a.m. Central with six team games slated. The Commodores start the day against McKendree, who ended Friday in fourth place.
