HOUSTON—A frosty Saturday inside Palace Lanes warmed considerably for the Vanderbilt Commodores with back-to-back victories over host Stephen F. Austin and top-rated Arkansas State to close out the day and finish with a 3-3 worksheet.

The Commodores scratched out a 981-960 win over the Ladyjacks behind Robyn Renslow’s powerful 248 and then rode Tori Ferris’ closing six in a row (225) to get the win over the hard-to-beat Red Wolves, 1,022-992.

Until that point it had been a tough fight, dropping games to Nebraska, Wisconsin-Whitewater and Tulane while beating Jackson State.

There were some good individual moments, such as Amanda Fry’s front seven en route to a 256 against Tulane, Giselle Poss (238) and Olivia Wirtz(223) versus Jackson State and Renslow’s 207.3 average for the six games.

The Commodores completed the two day qualifying with a 7-5 mark heading into Sunday’s bracket Baker games. Their shaky cumulative pin count placed them well out of the championship bracket, missing that foursome for the first time this season. Sunday’s play begins at 8:30 CST.
