When Vanderbilt takes the court next, the Commodores will be in Duluth, Ga., for the 2014 SEC Tournament.
After Sunday’s loss to Kentucky, the Commodores received the No. 8 seed in the tournament and will play ninth-seeded Georgia at 11 a.m. CT in Thursday’s second round.
Vanderbilt and Georgia finished 7-9 in the SEC and were among five teams tied with identical league records. Vanderbilt defeated Georgia 66-58 on January 2 at Memorial Gym in the only meeting between the two schools this season.
Should Vanderbilt defeat Georgia, the Commodores will face top-seeded South Carolina at 11 a.m. Friday.
Vanderbilt received the No. 8 seed by virtue of losing the tiebreaker to Auburn and Alabama and winning the tiebreaker over Georgia and LSU.
To break the tie between the five schools, head-to-head winning percentage was used. Auburn had a 66.7 percent winning percentage against the other four teams and received the No. 6 seed.
The same formula was used to break the tie between Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Vanderbilt. Alabama finished undefeated against the other three schools and received the No. 7 seed.
In the tiebreaker between Georgia, LSU and Vanderbilt, the Commodores went 2-0 against the other two, and, therefore, received the No. 8 seed.
